Attack on Titan Season 4 Episode 1 Summary 

The episode starts off with a boy staring at the sky with muted background noise of bullet shots. The boy was introduced as Falco with his brother, Colt, saving him from the rubbles and carrying him to the safety of the bunkers. He is then met by three other kids and we soon learn from a girl named Gabi that they, including Falco, are candidates to receive the powers of one of the titans and this is their final test.

Gabi perceived herself as the best amongst all other candidates not only in intelligence but also in her ability to prepare in such situations. She explains that one of them will inherit the titan powers from Reiner who is about to retire from his 13 years of possession of the armoured titan. Her burning desire to eliminate the people living in Paradis, the island of the devils, and gain redemption being the only good Eldians.

Gabi vs Anti Titan Train

The scene switches to the leader of the Eldian army, captain Magath, and Colt discussing how to destroy the anti titan train that just appeared. Colt proposed to use the Jaws and Cart titans to destroy it but Magath declined. He explains they cannot afford to lose any more titans like what happened in Paradis when they lost the Colossal and Female titans. He further explains that there are enough Eldians to sacrifice themselves to prove their value to Marley. 

Gabi then presents her plan to captain Magath to destroy the train by bombing it with hand grenades. If she fails, they lose only one soldier rather than sacrificing 800 Eldian soldiers. But her real motive is to really show off herself and get better chances of getting the armoured titan if she succeeds. Magath agrees and Gabi requests to remove her arm band so the enemy will not know she is an Eldian which the former also agreed.

Gabi then shows up alone  in the enemy territory with the grenades tied to her ankle. She pretends to fall down waiting for the right time for the train to arrive on top of the enemy bunker. As soon as the train arrived, she picked up her grenade and threw it to the rail causing the train to explode and fall. Gabi ran but Falco tried to save her after the two men started firing. Galliard, the jaws titan, appeared and protected the kids while Pieck, the cart titan attacked the remaining bunkers.

The War of Fort Salva

The airship finally arrives at the location after being given signal that the encampment has fallen. It contained people in suits waiting to be deployed together with Zeke and Reiner. The men are thrown out of the plane and Zeke screams causing the men to transform into mindless titans. The titans started attacking the enemy causing heavy damage but the enemy retaliated with their anti titan cannons.

Reiner followed and transformed to the armoured titan destroying parts of the wall. He was attacked by another armored train and lost one arm. He retaliated by attacking the train and the walls containing the anti titan cannons. The jaws titan showed up to help him. As soon as everything cleared, Zeke finally transformed to his beast titan to finish off the battle at the harbor. 

Zeke prepares for his signature baseball throw to destroy the ships in the harbor. The ships realized that they were being attacked and fired the cannons at Zeke. Reiner ran towards Zeke to protect him and falls down after taking damage. Zeke made a follow up throw and the war ends with the ships destroyed. The Marleyans learned of the victory and rejoiced and the scene ends with a mysterious man with a hat. Who could this man be and what is his role in the war? We will all find out on the next episode.
